Summer Pre-College Health Director
The Skidmore Summer Pre-College Program offers academically advanced high school students from the US and abroad the opportunity to enroll in undergraduate courses for credit, primarily as residential students. The Skidmore Summer Pre-College Health Director is responsible for supervising campus medical and safety treatment and protocols for the Pre-College Program, assuming the lead role in ensuring the health and wellbeing of the residential high school students, most of whom are minors.
The Summer Pre-College Health Director manages pre-program health screening of Pre-College students, including review of immunizations and health forms and coordination with parents on special needs. During the program, the Health Director will: provide on-site first aid; assess ill or injured students and refer to Urgent Care if appropriate; manage and implement emergency preparedness protocols; maintain studentsâ™ confidential medical histories and records; stock and oversee the program first aid kit; maintain a daily medical treatment log and other recordkeeping as needed. This position assumes the lead role in training staff in all health-related matters.
Based on campus in the Skidmore Pre-College residence hall health office during the program, this position reports to the Pre-College Program Director, with day-to-day oversight in the residence hall by the Pre-College Resident Director. The Health Director will evaluate ill or injured participants and communicate with parents/guardians as needed. This position performs administrative functions, works closely with all Pre-College staff, and collaborates with departments such as Campus Safety, Housekeeping, and Facilities Services as needed and/or requested by the Pre-College Program Director. Duties may also include acting as a liaison to local medical facilities or regulatory agencies as required. This temporary, part-time position requires on-call availability for consultation in the event of an urgent student need/emergency, including evenings/weekends.

Minimum Qualifications (Required)
The Summer Pre-College Health Director must be a New York State-licensed registered professional nurse (RN). Candidates for the position should be over the age of 21 and have a minimum of 3 years professional experience. The Pre-College Health Director must possess a current first aid training certificate and a current certificate in an acceptable cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training program. The candidate should be a self-starter with strong communication, problem-solving, and clinical assessment skills; have the ability to respond to emotional and psychological needs; be comfortable working with adolescents; and have demonstrated ability to make decisions and take initiative under pressure. A background in summer camp operations and/or experience working with high school-age students and familiarity with local resources is preferred.
