Job Description
Description of Duties:
Responsible for reading water meters and recording volumes used by residential and commercial consumers. Will assist in the collection of delinquent accounts as needed. May assist with routing new meters, for changing meters, installation of new customer boxes or for replacing old boxes, and repairing small leaks at the meter sites. Assists with working the locklist at various times during the month, or as needed. Participates in job specific training, and other various required corporate training programs; Complies with federal and state regulations and all established corporate policies and procedures. Other duties as may be assigned.
Job Requirements :
A self-starting individual who possesses a High School diploma or G.E.D. Must be able to read, write, and follow written instructions. Must possess a current Texas Driver License and must be insurable by the Corporation’s insurance underwriter. Must work towards obtaining a Class D Water Distribution from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). The following schools must be attended and successfully completed upon hire: Unit I Basic Water, Unit 5 Water Distribution, Water Utility Safety, and Customer Service Inspection. Will be required to complete medical physical examinations (post-hire) as required for license recertification, respirator use, , or any other job requirements. Must have good communications skills, in order to comprehend instructions, create correspondence and reports, and to effectively communicate with customers and employees of the Corporation. Must be fluent in English and Spanish (written and verbal). Basic mathematics skills are required (addition and subtraction of two digit numbers / multiplication and division by tens and hundreds) when calculating for reading and testing purposes. Must possess good judgment as well as exercise discretion in the performance of daily duties. Must be able to work a flexible work schedule between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. during the workweek and must be on call on a rotating schedule.
Position requires the employee to occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. May occasionally be exposed to extreme heat or cold weather conditions. Position requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and balance. Must have the ability to frequently life items up to 25 pounds and/or move items up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level associated with this position is generally loud.
Preferences:
3 or more months of prior relevant work experience, and current licensing.

The Corporation’s CCN boundary encompasses 973 square miles and either surrounds or is adjacent to 16 cities and/or communities that operate public water systems.
The system presently serves more than 44,900 meter connections, which include households, numerous businesses, 24 schools, and six other Public Water Systems, from six surface water treatment plants and one reverse osmosis treatment plant. The 44,900 meter connections represent an estimated population of nearly 180,000. The surface water treatment plants treat surface water conveyed by six irrigation districts. The original source of the raw water is the Rio Grande River. The reverse osmosis treatment plant treats brackish groundwater. Of these meter connections, approximately 2,000 are also served by the corporation’s wastewater system.
