Job Description

Duties

  • Providing direct administrative and technical guidance on work requirements and procedures.
  • Maintaining surveillance of waterways and areas related to agency operations.
  • Designing, preparing, planning, and constructing stream gaging stations, cableways, and other structures.
  • Ensuring the timely and accurate computation, compilation, review and transmission of hydrologic data.
  • Develops and implements operating guidelines and internal standards for work quality and output.
  • Supervising a team of Hydrologic Technicians that are in various geographic locations.
  • Addresses hydro data requests from stakeholders and general public.

  • You must pass a pre-employment drug test and pass periodic drug testing thereafter. A positive result will prevent employment or subject the incumbent to disciplinary action, up to removal from the position.
  • You will work in, on, or near water and will be required to wear a personal flotation device.
  • You must maintain direct deposit of your federal pay.
  • You may be required to enter Mexico to carry out official agency business.
  • You may be required to travel with overnight stay 20% of the time.
  • You must be able to lift and carry up to 44 pounds unassisted, and over 44 pounds assisted; and must be able to sustain periods of substantial walking, bending, stooping, standing, crouching, stretching, and reaching.

Specialized Experience:

GG/GS-11 : One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GG/GS-09 which includes: collection of ground and surface water data; checking gage settings to ensure continuing accuracy of the records obtained from instruments; observing and noting conditions; making and compiling observations of the fluctuations of ground water levels; collecting water samples for chemical analysis; making reconnaissance surveys for the location of new river gaging stations; preparing plans for gaging stations and such supporting equipment as automatic controls, cableways, and other accessories required for a complete stream-gaging facility; and collecting data and preparing reports on the ground water levels; assisting to resolve the problems that impeded the progress of a project; team leadership and monitoring and communicating work progress.



GG/GS-12: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GG/GS-11 which includes: planning and conducting the computation and collection of hydrologic data; computing rating tables and mean daily, monthly, and discharge relations; making indirect measurements of flood flows under extremely difficult conditions; collecting data to compute flood flows by measurement of flow of dams and embankments; making indirect measurements of flood flows under extremely difficult situations; obtaining hydrologic data from published and unpublished sources and conducting hydrologic studies relative to the frequency of flood and droughts; planning and coordinating a ground water survey program for an area with planning and coordinating problems related to the scope of the groundwater survey operations; and leading or supervising a team of technicians by coaching, training, balancing and scheduling work, monitoring and communicating work progress.
